Bright and early Thursday morning Matt and I set out to God’s Country, USA to spend Easter with his family and grandparents.
I had all intentions of packing Wednesday evening after a going away party for a friend. Unfortunately, after a bottle of wine and a Baskin-Robbin’s ice cream cone later, the packing never happened. Thank goodness for my sweet boyfriend who put together this Packing List for me. It made packing at 5am a breeze on Thursday morning. Isn’t he just the cutest??
We had a quick layover in Atlanta an arrived in Tallahassee around noon on Thursday. Matt’s parents swung by Tallahassee on their way to the lake to pick us up. It is a yearly tradition to enjoy road mimosa’s along the way. Last year while we were at the lake, Matt’s family purchased a boat. It happened to be Good Friday, which is why they decided to name their boat, Good Friday. This past Christmas we gave his family Good Friday fishing shirts and Go-Vino’s – which made the mimosa’s that much better.
Matt’s grandparents own a small piece of Heaven on Lake Victor, right on the Florida/Alabama border. While they have a house on the property, Matt’s family leaves a camper there year round – which is where we stay. There is nothing like sleeping with your boyfriends entire family to facilitate bonding!
The weather wasn’t as perfect as we were hoping for, but that allowed more time for Easter games and eating…lots and lots of eating. I’m talking chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy, fish fry, cinnamon rolls good eating! My diet begins today.
Finally after all of the rain, the sun shone through and things started to clear up. We all made an abrupt rush to soak up the sun before dusk.
As soon as the sun came out, so did the guns. You know what they say…the couple who snipes together, stays together.
The long weekend passed way too quickly, and before we knew it we were saying our goodbyes Sunday morning. I cherish the time I get to spend with Matt’s family since we do not get to see them often. I feel very blessed to also have another set of “grandparents” in my life. There is never a dry eye when we have to say goodbye to sweet Mimi and Papa John! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter as well!
